foot in mouth

have you ever had one of those moments? where you really just didn't think before you word vomited?

well a year ago from today, Sean and i had one of those moments. we were sitting at my parents house, on a saturday night. we had just gotten back from seeing "nick and norah's infinite playlist" which he thought was going to be a band, not a movie. anyway. we were with a bunch of people and we were talking about how people name their kids weird names sometimes. Sean told this story..

"so i had this teacher in high school. she had a baby during that semester. and guess what she named it? Rose. she named it Rose!! isn't that messed up? that is like an old lady name. why would anyone name their kid that?"

well for those of you who don't already know this. my middle name is Rose. dead serious. Sean had no idea. so i said this..

"well, my middle name is Rose."

he didn't believe me. he thought i was pulling one of those jokes when you say something like "oh, yeah well your momma's so...(insert not so nice word)" and then they tell you that their mom is dead. and then you apologize profusely, then later find out they were just kidding. yeah he thought it was one of those moments.

so i yelled to my cousin Tara, who was in the other room, "Tara, what is my middle name?"

"ROSE!"

yeah. Sean felt like a total idiot. he tried to say that it was okay for a middle name, and he just didn't exactly LOVE it for a first name. anyway when he asked me to marry him, i told him i would if we could name our first kid Rose. he said no. so i said, "fine, we will name her Rosie then. Rosie O'Donnel Ashby. so anyway that is going to be our first kids name. just to spite Sean.

i have had several of these moments unfortunately. when i was living in St. George during college, i worked at a restaurant. i was cleaning up the place with a co-worker who was about to get off of his shift. he told me that he was waiting for his fiance to come and pick him up because his car had broke down. i said,

"oh my gosh! i didn't even know that you were engaged! congrats! that is so awesome! what is her name?"

he replied, "well, his name is Tim."

ohhhh crap. needless to say i never assume anymore if someone's fiance is a male or female. you just never know these things.

p.s. there is another new post right below this one..and also don't forget to enter the free photoshoot/print giveaway here! anyone can enter! don't be shy :)

read both posts. ok so i just think you should know that i read your posts out loud to grant. i get jealous that you have such a fabulous way of writing everything down because the things that happen in your house are the same things happening in MY house! i mean i am lucky that my mother in law actually lives in california so she never sees our messy house but this summer they came out and almost the same thing happened. i had cleaned our entire house, except for the bathroom because i just wasn't in the mood. and then grant cut his hair and pretty much just trimmed his entire body and if you can't tell already he HAS A LOT OF HAIR. anyway so long story short OF COURSE she had to use our bathroom and i was just humiliated. then started sweeping and mopping our front entry way and this is too long and i feel like i'm leaving things out but oh well you get the point. i looked like a horrible wife. but oh well (i'm learning to say oh well because of you). SO about the foot in the mouth... i don't know HOW many times i've said to newlyweds...."so what temple did you guys get married in?"

and then ya. oh my gosh i am so dumb.

The fiance one is TOTALLY understandable. Back then, gay marriage wasn't allowed anywhere, right?

hahahaha hilarious. Well i think your middle name is absoultely adorable. I know a lady who is named Rose and she married a man with the last name Branch= Rose Branch. Now maybe that isn't the best combo, ha, funny though huh. And oh have i put my foot in my mouth before... many times :) i hate those moments.
On another note....... YOU ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOOO FREAKING BEAUTIFUL Chloe!! Seriously, all of those bridal shots could be in a magazine- you should enter them. you just have a natural beauty with your dark hair, and eyes, and lashes against your lace dress. So gorgeous. I hate hate hate my wedding pics. So when I see beautiful pictures it makes me sad. I didn't even pictures with Preston before our actual wedding day (i have no idea why???) and our wedding day ones look like crap cause of the noon lighting. Anyway i entered yours and Maddies contest.... ha.

You absolutely are NOT naming your first daughter, my granddaughter Rosie O'donnell. I can not stand her.

I would rather you name her Rose Kennedy. I kind of liked the Rose
Branch name ;)

OMG I TOTALLY had a foot in mouth moment today!!! Sometimes, I tend to forget that I live in Seattle and that 95% of the people around me aren't Mormon, like they are in Utah. So this girl and I were goofing around at school making ugly hair for our mannequin's. Anyway I said to her, "Your mannequin looks like a Jahovah's Witness or something" turns out she really is a Jahovah's Witness. Which ended up being cool cuz I got to learn about her religion, but still... awkward...

How funny, I did the exact same thing while a friend and I were talking about names. She first told me her mother was going to name her (let's say Bethany, because I forget what it was-horrible memory with details), we both agreed it was horrible. Then mentioned it was either that or another name, McKaren, to which I replied was horrible as well. And she then finished her sentence and said, "so she loved McKaren so much that she made it my middle name..." eek. Foot in mouth.

To make it worse, I was telling my boyfriends family about how I felt like such an idiot, and didn't realize the grandmother's name was Bethany. UGH, me and my big mouth. You would think I would have learned my lesson the 1st time!
