a weekend getaway.

this is kind of a long post, so if you don't want to hear all the details of our weekend getaway, then you can skip to the pictures! but the post does explain some of the pictures. so it is up to you... anyway, this weekend we had the chance to get away to my grandparents house! they live in torrey, utah. i have blogged about it before here. it is usually where we spend the 4th of July. we decided that since sean was finally done with his hardest semester yet we needed to celebrate. it was a much needed vacation!

we planned to leave friday night and luckily were able to get people to play in our softball game for us. we are hoping that it got cancelled because as we were heading home from work to pack it started snowing like crazy. it felt like we were in the middle of a blizzard. we decided that we should probably get new tires put on our honda before we left. there was a nail in one of the tires and we needed to get new tires within the next month or so anyway.. so sean just went and got them put on. it only took about 30 minutes. i hurried and packed quickly and our friends sara and kimball showed up around 5. we headed over to walmart to get some snacks for the trip.

my brother sam and his wife sarah met at our house around 6 and then we took off... 6 adults and a dog! we stopped at del taco real quick because my brother sam has to eat large amounts of food every 2 hours.  haha. anyway, we left moses in the car for a bit and he was so funny. he just sat in the drivers seat the whole time. starting at us in the restaurant. he is hilarious! anyway, once we got back in the car he sat in my lap for the entire 2 and a half hour drive. we passed lots of deer on the way and made it to torrey around 9:30. we spent the rest of the night talking with my grandparents and then watched friday night lights in the retreat. the retreat is a little cabin type area that is not connected to the main house. it is where we have always stayed when we come to visit. it is just like a cabin inside and has lots of places to sleep, a bathroom, a kitchen and a fireplace.

we woke up on saturday and had some delicious waffles and bacon, courtesy of my grandma dallyne. she is the best. then we decided to start working on the trays that my grandpa had prepared wood for. we were so excited to do this and hud such a fun time making them. they are so awesome! i am so glad that they prepared this for us. we all go to contribute to them. one tray for each couple. while we waited for the trays to set up after gluing them, us girls worked on some jewelry. my grandparents have the neatest shop that is separate from the house and the retreat. one half of it is full of stuff for my grandma. she sells jewelry and has all of her tools and machines, beads, books, metals, and tons of other stuff in there. my grandpas half is full of machines, tools, and wood. he also has a beautiful greenhouse and a huge fenced in garden. i made sure to get some pictures of his beautiful flowers. it was so fun to spend day in there. my sister in law sarah made a really cool bracelet out of a fork. i didn't get a finished picture of it but it wraps around her wrist and a really cool stone is set in between some of the fork prongs. it is super cool.

my friend sara made a super cool charm to go along with a beautiful stone necklace that my grandma made her and i made a little charm set necklace. one of the charms is a copper bone with moe's name on it. there is a silver piece with a heart and then another copper piece with sean's name on it. it was so fun to make! we gave the metal some fun textures and added some colors to it with fire. anyway, it was so much fun.

we went shooting guns after that. i was too cold to stay out of the car for that long. i tried to take some pictures from the car. i did get out and shoot some guns though. it was freezing. but a lot of fun! i love that sean is so proud of his gun. he is so cute when he shoots it. haha. me? not so much. but it is still fun. after shooting we headed to a little restaurant in town called Chillz. we had some burgers and fries and the boys played pool.

after that we came home, napped to the movie "barefoot in the park" and then cooked some steaks for dinner. we played Nertz and had a lot of fun with that. that game is addicting. then sara and i started watching the changeling with my grandparents while everyone else played monopoly. we ended the night while falling asleep to walk the line.

this morning we woke up and my grandma made us some delicious french toast. she is way too good to us. but i just adore her and my grandpa. they are the cutest people ever. after breakfast we decided to go drive through capitol reef national park. sara and kimball had never been before so we had to take them to see it. it is so beautiful. we stopped at the gifford house which is a really old historic home that was turned into a shop. we sampled some yummy sweet potato butter and some delicious salsa. they have homemade ice cream there so we got some of that and some peach salsa. it is AMAZING. i love it. after that we headed back to the house. we started cleaning, put one last coat of finish on the trays and then had some delicious pizzas for lunch. then we headed home after that.

it was a quick trip. but very much needed. i am so thankful to have such wonderful grandparents who let us come take over their place :) we love hanging out with them and had so much fun. it was so great to take moses. even though he is kind of a wimp. we thought he would run around and be a free dog but he kept wanting to be right where we were. he would sit by the outside of the door of whichever spot we were in. he was so funny. and he was afraid of my grandma's 15 year old wiener dog. it was so funny. he was seriously so afraid of her. this dog is afraid of everything but we sure love him. when we got home? he just crashed. he seriously has been sleeping the entire time. i had to snap some pictures of him sleeping on our bed. he is so cute.

anyway, this was a long post. so if you got this far? i am impressed. we had so much fun. i ate way too much candy and chips.. but it was totally worth it! :)  here are some pictures from the trip! thanks again grandma and grandpa crowton! we love you!

here is the main house.. i forgot to get a picture of the retreat that we stayed in.
but it would be on the left of where i was standing to take this picture.

Sometimes a small getaway is all you really need to recharge.
Looks like lots of fun!
And I just love that picture of mo all curled up on you bed. Seeing him like that makes him look like a little baby...except covered in fur and with a tail...uhmmm... whatever, freaking adorable!
And sweet charms! You did a great job! And half of the..."charm"... (haha) is that they're imperfect. ;)
♥!

Oh my goodness that sounds like an amazing weekend! Your grandparents should sell that kind of trip! I would do it in a heartbeat! Beautiful images and amazing jewellery! I do miss making jewellery a LOT. I made a fork bracelet once, but I wouldn't know how to bend the prongs like that - just GORGEOUS!

That is so wonderful that you have a spot like that to go to, and that they have such a cool set up! Can I go there with you? It looks amazing! I'm glad I was in sunny California during all of that snow.
